First Snow

Yes, we often grumble
Oh My, this I know!
How winter's getting closer
And the white stuff we call snow!

I, too, am the same way,
When I think of slippery roads.
But it's then that I remember
The excitment of first snow.

I recall the sense of wonder
As the lacy flakes fall down.
Enhancing every little thing
As it covers up the ground.

It brings out the little ones.
That cannot wait to play
To get all wet and cold
When first snow comes our way.

And often it's the topic
You can hear the big ones shriek
"Oh, look now, have you seen this?
All the snow that's on the street!"

It comes in such a flurry
Then sometimes it's like a dance
But most always, it's the first snow
That melts and doesn't last.

But when it comes in season
Muting colored lights aglow
Nearly every one is happy
That for Christmas there is snow
.
