Lay it Down

There walked a man of God on earth
Centuries ago
He had the choice to live or die
And this is what I know.

He chose to lay it down you see
So I could live again
Giving the ultimate sacrifice;
This innocent man bore my sins.

And when he carried that heavy cross
Up to the top of the hill
He took with him all the sins of the world.
The cross became heavier still.

Crying out in anguish
As they dropped the cross in the hole.
His body bruised and bleeding
Yet forgiveness
He prayed for those souls.

I was there upon the hill that day
Though it was way before my time.
I believe my sins were paid for
By the blood of Jesus Christ.

For God so loved the world,
That he gave his only begotten Son
That whosoever believeth in him
Should not perish,
But have everlasting life.
