Brillant Delight

There is an orange glow
Showing through the trees.
A new day has come
On the horizon I see.

A dusting of snow
Transforms the ground
To a carpet of diamonds
As the sun reaches out.

Suddenly winter
Is not so bleak
The starkness of trees
Twinkle and blink.

And in that moment
Of brillant delight
The magic of winter
Is quite a sight.

Then flashes of color
Reds, and blues
Fluttering on wings
The birds are in cue.

Yes, this is winter
But not all is asleep
Just silently waiting
For the kiss of Spring.
